Project to Begin Early Next Year | Fahmi: Creating Around 2,000 Direct Job Opportunities (Kuala Lumpur, 16th) Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the Perlis Advanced Technology City project in Chuping is expected to commence construction early next year, creating around 2,000 direct job opportunities in the relevant fields. The project, valued at USD 11 billion (approximately RM 49.17 billion), is set to begin phased operations by mid-2027. He mentioned that the project will collaborate with government higher education institutions, such as Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), or other Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to strengthen TVET development. “Our youth will not only become proficient in artificial intelligence technology but will also acquire skills essential for the operation of the technology city.” Fahmi made these remarks today (16th) while accompanying the Crown Prince of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, to witness the signing of a major joint development agreement between Siraj Capital and Skyvast Holdings for the Perlis Advanced Technology City. 1.25GW AI Data Center Infrastructure Fahmi explained that the development includes infrastructure for a 1.25-gigawatt (GW) artificial intelligence data center, which will operate off-grid, independent of the existing energy network. “Therefore, they will use energy sources such as solar power, storage batteries, or gas turbines to ensure the 1.25GW data center functions smoothly.” He added that Chuping was chosen as the investment site because it is one of the sunniest locations and has suitable terrain for building a technology city. The off-grid concept, he noted, is particularly attractive to companies aiming for green investment ratings. The Communications Ministry believes this project will drive the nation’s digital economic transformation, especially in Perlis. “This is a game-changing project that will put Perlis on the global map for artificial intelligence data centers. As such, the ministry will provide full support, including discussions on undersea cables, to facilitate the establishment of the data center in Perlis.”
